Giclee*
Prints - produced on canvas of high quality, mounted on a
canvas stretcher, sprayed with a waterproofing and archival
sealant and are ready for framing.
*A
giclee (zhee-CLAY) is an individually produced, high-resolution,
high-fidelity reproduction done on a special large format
printer. Giclees are produced from digital scans of existing
artwork. Also, since many artists now produce only digital
art, there is no "original" that can be hung on
a wall. Giclees solve that problem, while creating a whole
new vibrant medium for art.
Giclees can be printed on any number of media, from canvas
to watercolor paper to transparent acetates. Giclees are superior
to traditional lithography in several ways. The colors are
brighter, last longer, and are so high-resolution that they
are virtually continuous tone, rather than tiny dots. The
range, or "gamut" of color for giclees is far beyond
that of lithograph

About the
Artist:
Fletcher
C. Derrick, Jr., M. D. is a Urologist in Private Practice in Charleston,
S. C. He studied at the Gibbes Art Gallery Adult Education Program
in 1990 and did a number of pastel paintings mostly for his family
and friends. At age 70, and still not wanting to retire, he reduced
his practice and enrolled in oil painting art class at The College
of Charleston under Lynne Riding. He fell in love with oils and
color theory. Since his class at C of C he has studied with Joyce
Hall, Martin Ahrens of Tidwell Art Gallery Art School, and Emmie
Brunson of McClellanville, SC. He is currently studying under
Joyce Hall. He paints at home and in the studio and has done some
plein air painting.
His
interest in painting roses comes from 35 years of growing roses
as his main hobby. He currently has 120 rose bushes in his garden
at 12 Orange Street in Charleston, S. C, where he resides with
his wife Martha. He is a Consulting Rosarian for the American
Rose Society and is an accredited Horticultural Rose Judge.
